5 Signs Your Current Scanner Is Giving You a False Sense of Security

A few patterns tend to show up when a scanner is giving a team more confidence than it should. First: the report almost never changes between scans, even as the application evolves — a sign the tool is only catching the same shallow category of issue each time.
Second: findings are described in generic, templated language rather than anything specific to your application’s actual behavior. Third: nothing in the report ever requires a business logic explanation — every finding is purely technical and pattern-based.
Fourth: severity scores don’t account for chaining, so three ‘low’ findings that combine into account takeover still show up as three separate lows. Fifth, and most telling: the report has never once required a conversation with engineering about whether something is actually exploitable, because nothing has ever been verified beyond a pattern match.
